Abstract

The international standard ISO 24610 defines a scheme of how to encode feature structures and their declarations in XML. The main goal of this standard is to provide a format for the exchange of feature structures and feature system declarations between applications. This paper gives an overview of the elements of the standard and sketches its development and some of the design decisions involved. We also discuss the role of this standard in relation to other standardization proposals for language resources and we briefly address its relevance for application programming.
